Sebangau National Park has an area of approximately 568,700 hectares. There are many natural resources that are owned in the park. Starting from hundreds of plant species, bird species, dozens of snake species and various types of mammals.

Administratively, Sebangau National Park is located in Palangka Raya, Katingan Regency, Pulang Pisau Regency, Central Kalimantan. This park was approved by the Decree of the Minister of Forestry Number: 423 / Menhut-II / 2004 dated 19 October 2004.

There are 6,000 wild orangutans in the area. This number is based on research from America in 2008. These numbers are not orangutans that have been translocated due to conflicts with humans or who have been released.

There are also three tourist destinations in the park. In Palangka Raya, Pulang Pisau and Katingan.

For Palangka Raya, the tourist destination is called the Koran River. The distance from Kereng Bengkirai Harbor, Palangka Raya is 30 minutes. The advantage of this place is that tourists can do traccking in the forest, see orangutans and sometimes meet monkeys. Not only that, there are also pythons and Borneo vipers and others.

The second tourist destination is Mangkok Resort, which is in Pulang Pisau Regency. This place was also recently visited by Minister of Environment and Forestry, Siti Nurbaya and his entourage this afternoon, Saturday. In that place, it is more on peat rehabilitation education. Namely, the creation of channel blocking. There are also various types of birds, snakes and so on. The purpose of making canals is to get wet when the dry season arrives.

Third, the Punggualas tourist destination, which is located in Baun Bango District, Katingan Regency. There are orangutans, pasiar boats, guesthouses, owak-owan, kantan and snakes. In addition, there are also many other types that visitors can enjoy.

Of the three places, the destinations most visited by tourists are the Koran and Punggualas Rivers. The tourists are also not only residents of Palangka Raya, Central Kalimantan but also outside Kalimantan. In fact, not a few foreigners come to the area to enjoy the beauty of Sebangau National Park.

Sebangau National Park is actually more on principle, conservation is number 1, while tourism is 2. So the tour is limited, because it is feared that it will be damaged. Also no one should give food to animals. Because the animal conservation area there is still wild and natural.
